When is my BAS actually due?
Pick your cycle and your quarter. You will get the date the ATO expects it if you lodge it yourself, and the date you get if a registered agent lodges it for you. They are not the same date, and the difference is usually four weeks.

Your BAS due date
This works out your date automatically. If nothing changes when you choose, the full table of dates is further down the page and it says the same thing.
If you lodge it yourself
28 October 2026
Lodging online may buy you an extra two weeks.
If we lodge it for you
25 November 2026
Four weeks later, at no extra cost to you.
If a due date lands on a weekend or a public holiday you have until the next business day. The agent dates are the ATO lodgment program dates for 2026 and 2027 and they apply only where the statement is lodged electronically by the agent and the previous one was too. Quarter 2 gets no extension from anybody, because its due date already includes a month.
What to do before you lodge
The lodging takes ten minutes. It is everything before it that people get wrong, and it is the same list every quarter.
Get the bank feed to the last day
Reconcile right up to the end of the quarter. A half reconciled account is the single most common reason a BAS is wrong, because the sales are in and some of the expenses are not.
Deal with the unallocated stuff
Anything sitting in suspense, or coded to a holding account because nobody knew what it was. That is where the GST you are entitled to usually hides.
Check the big ticket items
A ute, a trailer, a machine. Purchases over a few thousand dollars are worth looking at individually, because the GST on one of them can be more than a whole quarter of small expenses.
Sanity check the number
Does the amount owing look like a normal quarter? If it is double or half, something is wrong. Find out what before you lodge, not after.
Every date, in one table
| Quarter | If you lodge it | If we lodge it |
|---|---|---|
| Quarter 1, July to September 2026 | 28 October 2026 | 25 November 2026 |
| Quarter 2, October to December 2026 | 28 February 2027 | No extension |
| Quarter 3, January to March 2027 | 28 April 2027 | 26 May 2027 |
| Quarter 4, April to June 2027 | 28 July 2027 | 25 August 2027 |
Monthly lodgers are due on the 21st of the following month. The December statement is the exception and is not due until 21 February, if your turnover is under $10 million, you report GST monthly and you lodge electronically. Dates beyond June 2027 are not published by the ATO yet, so they are not on this page. Source: ATO, registered agent lodgment program 2026 to 2027.
Where people come unstuck
I cannot pay the whole thing this quarter.
Lodge it anyway, on time, and then talk to the ATO about a payment plan. The penalty for lodging late is separate from the interest on paying late, so not lodging turns one problem into two. Ring us before the due date and we will do it with you.
I am a few quarters behind.
Very common, and less dramatic than it feels. There is a sensible order to catch up in, and going to the ATO with a plan already in place lands very differently to being chased. Book a meeting and bring whatever you have.
Does using an agent really give me longer?
Yes, for three of the four quarters, and it is roughly four weeks each time. Quarter 2 is the exception because its date already includes an extension for everybody. The catch is that the statement has to be lodged electronically by the agent, and the one before it as well.
My bookkeeping is not up to date.
Then the date is not really your problem yet. Get the file right first, because a BAS built on a half reconciled ledger is a number you will be amending later. We can look at the file and tell you how far off it is.
Want the extra four weeks?
Lodging through us moves three of your four quarterly deadlines back about a month, and you stop being the one who has to remember them.
