Tools and templates for business owners
Calculators, walkthroughs and spreadsheets we actually use with clients. Nothing here asks for your details first. Take what is useful and get on with your day.

Work it out yourself
Things that answer a question on the spot.
What is my working from home claim worth?
The rate for your income year, what your hours come to, and a table that tells you whether you are actually entitled to claim it. Most people can claim the running costs. Almost nobody can claim the rent.
Selling before July 2027, or after?
Capital gains tax changes on 1 July 2027. For most people it changes nothing and there is no deadline. Find out in a minute whether you are in the group it does affect.
When is my BAS due?
Pick your cycle and your quarter and get your date, both for lodging it yourself and for lodging through a registered agent. The gap is about four weeks on three of the four quarters.
Create and send an invoice in Xero
Every screen in order, with the bits that catch people out marked as you go. Including what a tax invoice legally has to say, which is the part people get wrong.
Personal budget template
What is actually going out of the household each month, laid out so the number at the bottom is the one that matters. Step one of almost every plan we build with an owner.
Business recovery action list
The list we work through with an owner whose business has had a hard year. Cash, costs, people, debt and pricing, in the order worth tackling them.
Risk register
What could go wrong in your business, how likely it is and what it would cost you. Dull until the day you need it, and then not dull at all.
Year end questionnaire
What we need from you to prepare your financial statements and tax return. Filling it in first is the difference between a quick job and a fortnight of emails.
Who are your best customers?
Ten minutes of questions that give you a written description of the customers you want more of, what matters to them, and how to describe your business clearly. Give it to whoever writes for you, or paste it into ChatGPT before you ask it for anything.
Worth reading if it applies to you
Written for owners, not for accountants. These are the ones people ask us about most.
Trusts and distributions
The ATO is actively looking at how trusts distribute income. Resolutions have a hard 30 June deadline and there is no fixing them afterwards.
A vehicle through the business
What a work ute or a company car actually costs you once fringe benefits tax is in the picture, and when it genuinely comes to nothing.
Finalising STP at year end
The step that tells the ATO your payroll year is done. Get it wrong and it follows your staff into their own tax returns.
Lodging your TPAR
If you pay contractors, you probably have to report them. Xero will help, but only if it has been told which suppliers count.
Behind on super
Late super is one of the few things where the penalty is worse than the amount owed, and it stops being deductible.
What it costs to work with us
Fixed fees, agreed before anything starts. No bill you did not expect at the end of it.
Want someone to look at yours?
A template gets you started. If you would rather have a person go through your actual numbers, that is the meeting.
