Business planning, Albury and Wodonga

A business plan you will actually use, not one that sits in a drawer

Half a day working on the business instead of in it. You leave with the numbers, the priorities and the next three things to do.

If any of this sounds familiar, you are the reason this page exists.

  • You are busy but you are not sure it is working. Turnover is up and the bank balance is not.
  • You find out how the year went in October, when the return is done and nothing can be changed.
  • Every decision is made in the ute between jobs, because there is never a quiet hour to think.
  • You have written a plan before and it has not been opened since.

The month you do this in decides whether it is any use

A plan written in March can still change the year it is about. The same plan written in October is a report on a year that has already happened. This is the whole reason we run the meeting when we do.

  1. MarchWe sit down. There is still a quarter left to act on anything we find.
  2. 30 JuneThe year locks. Whatever was going to be done had to be done by now.
  3. July to SeptemberRecords come together and the return gets prepared.
  4. OctoberYou finally see the number. Nothing about it can be changed.

Does it actually change anything?

A fair question to ask before giving up half a day. Here is a client answering it rather than us.

I am a new business owner so we had several challenges in setting up and planning for our business, but the entire team has been fantastic at helping with this. Their Proactive tax planning meeting in March meant that we were able to put things in place before the EOFY that benefited our business greatly.

What we actually cover

Where the money is really going

Not the profit and loss you already have. Which jobs, which customers and which months are carrying the business, and which are quietly costing you.

What has to be true next year

Turnover, margin, the wage you are meant to be paying yourself, and what has to change for any of it to happen.

The next three things

Not thirty. Three, with a date on each, because a list nobody can finish is the reason the last plan went in a drawer.

You leave with it written down. Not a bound document nobody reads, the actual numbers and the three actions, on something you can put on the wall.

Questions we get asked

Do I have to be an existing client?

No. Plenty of people come to the planning meeting first and decide afterwards whether they want us doing the rest.

What does it cost?

You get the fee before we start, and it does not move. For most small businesses this pays for itself in one decision made three months earlier than it otherwise would have been.

My books are a mess. Is it worth doing?

Usually yes, though we may need to get the file current first so the numbers we plan from are real. We will tell you at the start if that is the case rather than halfway through.

Is this just tax planning?

Tax is part of it, because timing decisions have tax consequences. But the meeting is about the business. If all you want is the tax side, say so and we will keep it short.

Ready when you are.

Book the planning meeting. If it is not the right time of year for it, we will tell you that too.
